Modern Learning Process

MATERILENGKAP.MY.ID – The Learning Process of the Contemporary Age. Educate your children according to their times,” said Sayyidina Ali bin Abu Talib. An important note at the beginning of the new year specifically for teachers who will start the learning process at school. This note wants to manipulate that the learning process (hereinafter abbreviated as PP) in schools should not be watched. The PP used should not be ‘that’s all’, the teacher must take the initiative to make contemporary changes.

In the past, school was a room where teachers and students met face to face to transfer their knowledge. Teachers must meet in person to be able to teach various knowledge. That was then, that was the bengen era, that was the baholak era.

Life and livelihood have changed with the advancement of science and technology. Teachers are not sufficiently equipped only with abilities regarding teaching and learning theory, but also require a variety of current knowledge and skills in the form of ICT-based learning ( Information Communication Technology). ICT-based learning itself is learning based on the concept of computer and multimedia learning.

Therefore, the task of teachers today is to design PP that really fits the habits, hobbies, needs, preferences of today’s students. Teachers must be good at finding and creating learning conditions that make it easier for students to understand, interpret, and connect subject matter that is in accordance with the student’s world.

Nowadays, we can get information quickly from various sources on the internet. With the internet, all information is easily accessible via search engines (google, yahoo, etc.). With the sophistication of information technology, it is appropriate for teachers to master and take advantage of this sophistication to present something contemporary in PP. Students in this digital era are children who enjoy the world of gadgets. Students tend to spend their time playing with modern games, such as smartphones, androids, tablets and others.

Teachers ‘must’ realize how important it is to master technology in this day and age. Teachers must try to catch up, teachers must be willing to learn. Technology-savvy teachers are able to maximize information technology, especially the internet, to support PP. Indeed, there are already teachers who have used various media on the internet for PP such as blogs, Facebook, and even YouTube. But, admittedly, there are still many teachers who still have the status quo, and still believe in the ‘bengen’ era of learning models.

In the end, the digital era made teachers aware that ICT is not just technological sophistication but something that is ‘brought’ into the classroom as a means or media. Teachers do not need to be anti-students who are happy with social media. At this point, some teachers are ‘immigrant residents’ ( digital immigrants ) whose existence is very important for students, namely facilitating students to learn by utilizing the advantages of the internet in a more pedagogical direction to make learning ‘comfortable’. Digital immigrants , their job is to teach digital natives, to increase the competence of students’ learning quality.

PP applies internet-based ICT with digital teaching materials causing a shift in PP from what teachers usually do. Rosenberg mentioned the five shifts, namely: a shift from training to appearances, a shift from the classroom to where and whenever PMB can be carried out, a shift from paper to digital and online so that it is paperless or paperless, a shift from physical facilities to network or popular facilities. called network , and from cycle time to real time.

Therefore, Jennifer Nichols suggests four main principles of contemporary learning: 1)  student-centered learning. Students are placed as learning subjects who actively develop their interests and potential; 2)  learning is working together (collaborative) . Students must be taught to be able to work with others who are different and learn how to appreciate the strengths and talents of others and adapt appropriately to those conditions; 3) learning must have context, subject matter must be related to students’ real life ( real world ); 4) . Schools must be integrated with the community and facilitate students to be involved in their social environment.

To realize these principles and skills, the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Religion mainstream the 21st century learning model, which is formulated in the 4Cs, namely: 1) communication : Students should be given the opportunity to express their opinions in the teaching and learning process, so that students can construct their own knowledge through communication and experience. experience; 2) collaboration : in the learning process the teacher should create a situation where students can learn together / in groups ( team work ), learn to respect differences of opinion, realize the mistakes he made, and can foster a sense of responsibility in carrying out the responsibilities given;

Then, 3) Critical Thinking and Problem Solving : the learning process should make students think critically by connecting learning with contextual problems that exist in everyday life; 4) creativity and innovation , learning must create conditions in which students can be creative and innovate. Teachers should be facilitators in accommodating the results of creativity and innovation developed by students.

So, information technology that is developing so rapidly, is varied, entertaining, and easy to present knowledge that is in one hand, a gadget ( device ) with just one click. It could be that students have already accessed the information outside of class. Here the role of the teacher is to spread the syllabus set by the government to students to be studied outside of school. For teachers, it could be that students already know what the teacher is saying, but if it is presented in an interesting, creative, innovative way, students will be more challenged to learn.

The education expert is right: ” The issue is not our student. The issue is we (teachers) ready for the changes?
