Understanding Worship
Worship in language (etymology) means to humble oneself and submit, while according to syarah (terminology) is to obey Allah swt by carrying out His commands through the mouth of His Apostles.
Worship is divided into 3 types, namely:
1. Worship performed with the heart (qalbiyah) in the form of khauf (fear), raja’ (hope), mahabbah (love), tawakkal (dependence), raghbah (happy), and rahbah (fear).
2. Worship is carried out orally (lisaniyah) in the form of glorification, tahlil, tahmid and gratitude.
3. Worship performed with limbs (badaniyah) in the form of prayer, zakat, hajj, jihad, etc.
During the Covid-19 Pandemic in 2020, the Implementation of Compulsory Worship which should be carried out in congregation at the mosque, the Ulama & Umarah agree that this obligation can be carried out in congregation at home. The worship in question is as follows:
Praying the Five Times in congregation
The implementation of congregational prayers in the mosque is Sunnah Mu’akkad. As for protecting yourself from the transmission of a deadly virus, it is obligatory. Prioritizing obligatory worship over sunnah is better. If there are those who continue to carry out in the mosque in congregation while carrying out health protocols such as washing hands with soap, checking the congregation’s body temperature, adjusting rows/maintaining distance (Physical Distancing), using hand sanitizer, wearing masks and using prayer tools/ Sejadah alone, and if it is not fulfilled, then the implementation of the five daily prayers can be carried out in congregation at home with the nuclear family. as the words of the Prophet: ” Avoid plagues such as (avoid) the pursuit of tigers” (Narrated by Bukhari)
Friday prayer in congregation
The law for the implementation of Friday prayers for Muslims who are male, mature, with common sense, and living (not a traveler) then the law is fardhu ‘ain. When there is an age such as illness, heavy rain, or the current COVID-19 pandemic, then the obligation to pray Friday falls, and replaces it with four cycles of midday prayer at home and the reward is the same as Friday prayer at the mosque.
Eid prayer in congregation
As the end of the implementation of the spiritual worship of the month of Ramadan, Allah swt prescribes the sunnah prayer of Eid al-Fitr at the beginning of the month of Shawwal.
Eid al-Fitr prayers are carried out in two cycles with different implementation procedures from other sunnah prayers. The difference is that the takbir is added seven times in the first rak’ah and five times the takbir in the second and is accompanied by tasbih readings coupled with a sermon after the prayer. and the law of implementation is sunnah muakkad. In the atmosphere of a pandemic, Eid prayers and sermons are not carried out in mosques/fields but can be carried out at home to avoid the transmission of COVID-19.
So this short article was made, hopefully it will be useful for all of us, and during the pandemic, let’s continue to implement the health protocols in breaking the chain of spreading Covid-19 so that we stay healthy and safe.
