Introducing the Special Features of Bengkulu District to Early Childhood Through Art Activities of Making Besurek Batik Pattern Pencil Place.

Early Childhood according to Law – Law No. 20 of 2003 on the National Education system states that Early Childhood Education is a Development aimed at children from birth to six years of age that is done through the provision of educational stimuli to help the growth and development of physical and spiritual so that children are ready to enter further education. 

There are six aspects of child development that must be developed comprehensively, namely,

1. Aspects of the Development of Religious and Moral Values 

2. Aspects of Social Emotional Development 

3. Aspects of Cognitive Development 

4. Aspects of Language Development 

5. Aspects of Art Development 

6. Aspects of Gross and Fine Motor Development 

Batik is a meaningless writing that is poured on a piece of cloth. While besurek batik is a typical batik from Bengkulu Province that has a motif of calligraphic letters guntul and rafflesia arnoldi flowers. This Rafflesia flower itself is the largest flower in the world and only grows in the mountainous areas of Bengkulu Province. 

Batik besurek has various motifs, including: 

1. Calligraphy Motifs 

2. Nail Recess Motif

3. Kuau Bird Motif 

4. Rafflesia Flower Motif 

In ancient times, besurek batik was only used by religious leaders at religious events, customs, traditional ceremonies, and weddings. Along with the development of the era, Besurek batik can be used for various products such as uniforms, bags, headscarves, pencil cases and various other types of souvenirs. 

To introduce the special features of the area at an early age can be done with art activities to make a pencil place with a batik pattern besurek. In this art activity, children can find out how to make a pencil place neatly, children can find out the batik motifs used.

In the first activity, the teacher prepared a pattern of besurek batik on paper, plastic jars, glue, and crayons. Then the children were asked to color the batik basurek pattern with various colors, after finishing coloring the children were asked to paste it on a plastic jar. To make it more interesting, children can also add other ornaments to the pencil case. 

In the Art Activity of making a pencil case with a besurek batik pattern, the children looked very enthusiastic because the media used was very interesting. Thus, aspects of children’s artistic development can be stimulated and developed very well, and children can recognize the characteristics of the region.
